Precision diagnostics of cartilage load in Knee Osteo Arthritis

Posted by Erasmus MC/TU Delft 115 days ago

We are looking for two self-motivated postdocs with a strong interest in working in a flagship multidisciplinary project between Erasmus MC and TU Delft on Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA), supported by the Convergence initiative.

KOA is characterized  by slowly progressing degeneration of the cartilage. In this project we will use innovative technologies to measure the cartilage overload caused by biomechanical disturbances. We aim to develop a lab that has (1) the precision of current structure oriented imaging technologies and (2) the function of a state of the art biomechanics lab based on motion capture. Its results will inform predictive models on KOA progression and identify responders to biomechanical interventions.

The first postdoc will build  a laboratory TRL 7 that integrates comprehensive biomechanical evaluation during walking with a concurrent dual beam fluoroscopy imaging facility. The second postdoc will clinically validate these measurements on patients at high-risk for knee OA (with a post-traumatic knee) and patients with early stage OA.

Qualification and skills

Postdoc position 1 TU Delft

  • Background in Physics, Musculoskeletal Imaging, Biomechanics or Medical Technology Development
  • Track record of interdisciplinary approach S
  • Strong communication skills

Postdoc position 2 Erasmus MC

  • Background in (Bio)medical Research, Epidemiology/Clinimetrics, Applied  Biomechanics
  • Track record of patient involvement
  •  Strong communication skills

Expectations

The postdocs should have a deep interest in the convergence of health sciences, physical sciences, and engineering to foster individual health and keep the healthcare system sustainable. They will work closely with the supervisors, Principal investigators and Collaborating investigators of the project to conduct high calibre research. They are also encouraged to initiate and lead collaborative work with other postdocs within the Convergence for health(care) initiative. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
