We are looking for two self-motivated postdocs with a strong interest in working in a flagship multidisciplinary project between Erasmus MC and TU Delft on the topic of electromechanics of organs, supported by the Convergence initiative. Cardiac fibrillation is characterized by an irregular, fast heart rate that can increase your risk of strokes, heart failure and other heart-related complications. Unfortunately, cardiac arrhythmias are the cardiovascular epidemy of the 21th century affecting not only the aging populations but also children and younger adults. Effective therapies or preventing the progression of the disease in these patients will have an enormous impact on the quality of life, reduce mortality and morbidity, and lower the associated healthcare costs. This project and its unique electro-acoustic insight into arrhythmia-related electropathology identifies underlying causes of the disease in each individual patient enabling the appropriate patient-tailored treatment.
Qualification and skills
The applicant who will have a main appointment at TU Delft should have:
- a degree in Physics, Mathematics or Engineering and a relevant PhD in Imaging
- experience in conducting imaging experiments and advanced image processing & reconstruction is highly preferred
- the candidate will work in a highly multi-disciplinary team of biologists, chemists, biomedical engineers and physicist from TU Delft and Erasmus MC
The post-doc at Erasmus MC should:
- be familiar with the concepts of cardiac electrophysiology
- have a background in bioinformatics, machine learning or other signal processing techniques
The postdocs should have a deep interest in the convergence of health sciences, physical sciences, and engineering to foster individual health and keep the healthcare system sustainable. They will work closely with the supervisors, Principal investigators and Collaborating investigators of the project to conduct high calibre research. They are also encouraged to initiate and lead collaborative work with other postdocs within the Convergence for health(care) initiative. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
